How We Choose Products

No paid placements. Here is exactly how we decide what makes the edit.

We built Skin for Women because skincare shopping is overwhelming and full of hype. Our promise is simple: we recommend what works, and we tell you why — including the downsides. We accept no payment for placements. Here's how every product earns its spot.

Our 7-point evaluation

  1. Ingredients first. We look at the actual formula and whether the key actives are at concentrations supported by evidence — not marketing buzzwords.
  2. Real-world reviews. We read beyond the 5-star ratings, paying special attention to 3-star reviews, which reveal honest trade-offs.
  3. Safety & tolerability. We flag irritation risk, sun sensitivity, and who should be cautious — not just who'll benefit.
  4. Value for money. A great product at a fair price beats an expensive one with the same actives.
  5. Evidence, not promises. We describe what an ingredient is shown to do, and avoid any claim a product can't honestly support.
  6. Suitability by skin type & concern. We match recommendations to real needs, and clearly note who a product is not for.
  7. Ongoing review. Formulas, prices, and availability change. We revisit our picks regularly and date every page.

Products we've looked at and rejected

Editorial independence means sometimes saying no. We pass on products with misleading claims, unproven "miracle" ingredients, poor quality control, or pricing that doesn't match what's inside the bottle — even when they're popular.
